2,000 Deaths | Rosa Parks

Sari Gelzer | 2,000th Death Sparks Nationwide Protests
The 2,000th soldier has died in Iraq. The Pentagon announced that Staff Sgt. George T. Alexander Jr., 34, of Killeen, Texas, died Saturday in San Antonio of injuries sustained October 17. Protests today have commenced after this milestone was announced and will continue throughout the week in Washington. Also, there will be combined vigils and protests in cities across the country tomorrow.

Rosa Parks, Founding Symbol of Civil Rights Movement, Dies
Rosa Parks, a black seamstress whose refusal to relinquish her seat to a white man on a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama, almost 50 years ago helped touch off the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, died at her home yesterday in Detroit. She was 92 years old.
